Rat and Squirrel wildlife control: All rodents gnaw. Gray squirrels
cause damage just by their chewing. They will chew into attics, and, once
inside, can do extensive damage to wiring.|
They can fall into chimneys and end up in your fireplace, or, if the damper
is open, they may end up running around your house. Occasionally, I have
found them nesting in a garage as well. Normally, you will hear gray
squirrels up inside the attic, or running in the soffits in the early
morning (around sunrise), and, again, later in the day (from 4PM till dark).
They are generally quiet at night. Rats, squirrels, and flying Squirrels will
be heard scampering around at night. Mice are more prevalent around
conifer (evergreen) trees, whereas you generally find gray squirrels around
hardwoods. Both red squirrels and gray squirrels prefer to enter your house
from a tree that is close enough to gain access to the roof, but sometimes
they will climb a deck or a porch to gain entry to the house, or cross a
utility wire. Flying Squirrels can "fly" (or, more accurately glide) from
trees as far away as 50 meters or so, depending on the height of the trees.
They land on the roof and scamper inside. Wildlife generally enter from
ground level. Orlando wildlife control (our species is the Eastern chipmunk) are also known
as ground squirrels.
Raccoon wildlife removal: Raccoons generally start causing problems
when they move into a structure. Living inside an attic is common. Although,
wildlife control have found them in basements, crawlspaces, chimneys, and garages. There
can be odors, risk of disease, and damage to interior ceilings. Chimney
dwelling raccoons will make a lot of noise, especially when the young are
present. If the flue damper is open in your fireplace, you just may come
face to face with one in your living room also.
Once you have all of the entrances fitted with an exclusion device, wait
7-10 days for all of the bats to leave before permanently sealing the
openings. Use steel wool, cement, caulk, hardware cloth or plating. Do not
use expanding foam – it is toxic and may kill any bats that return and come
into contact with it when trying to re-enter.

CONTROLLING WILDLIFE DAMAGE|
objective of any control program should be to reduce damage in a practical,
humane and environmentally acceptable manner. If you base control methods on
the habits and biology of the animals causing damage, your efforts will be
more effective and will serve to maximize safety to the environment, humans
and other animals.

A key to controlling wildlife damage is prompt and accurate determination
of which animal is causing the damage. Even someone with no training or
experience can often identify the pest by thoroughly examining the damaged
area. Because feeding indications of many wildlife species are similar,
other signs – such as droppings, tracks, burrows, nests or food caches – are
usually needed to make a positive species identification.
After you properly identify the wildlife pest, you can choose control
methods appropriate to the animal species involved. Improper control methods
may harm but not kill the animal, causing it to become leery of those and
other methods in the future. For example, using traps and poison baits
improperly or in the wrong situation may teach the animal that the control
method is harmful. This may make the animal difficult to control later, even
with the correct method. Four steps lead to a successful nuisance wildlife
- Correctly identify the species causing the problem.
- Alter the habitat, if possible, to make the area less
attractive to the wildlife pest.
- Use a control method appropriate to the location, time of
year, and other environmental conditions.
- Monitor the site for re-infestation in order to determine if
additional control is necessary.
The most commonly used methods for controlling nuisance wildlife around
homes and gardens include exclusion, habitat modification, repellents, toxic
baits, glue boards, traps and frightening.
Keep Wildlife Out of Your Home Attic
If you don’t yet have a problem with bats and you’re more interested in
preemptive bat-proofing, the best first step is to contact your local animal
control or wildlife conservation agency for assistance or instructions
specific to your geographical area. The most important step will usually be
the elimination of any potential entry points. Scour the exterior of you
home and nearby structures for openings 1/2″ or larger, and then seal them
all completely with steel wool, hardware cloth, screens, netting, plating,
or silicone caulk.
